Property Description

The secular property was classified in 2005 as 'Property of National Public Interest.' With Cistercian architectural characteristics, it is the only Portuguese farm initially built during the medieval period and best preserved in the Iberian Peninsula. Inserted in a bucolic landscape, in the floodplain between Alcobaça and Nazaré, it has the Pinhal de Leiria as a natural barrier and the sea on the horizon.

The buildings on this farm are divided into four main parts: the central house, the cellar, the barn, and finally, the apartments, located in the old stables and encompassing a total area of almost 6.4 hectares.

The main house, in its rectangular configuration and with an entrance in the middle of the building, consists of a ground floor with eight suites, a library, a living room, and a dining room. These three exquisite halls have high ceilings and are made of wood and stucco. The 19th-century furniture makes the environment noble and welcoming. On the second floor, there are eight more suites, an office, a dining room, a living room, and a large fully equipped kitchen.

In front of the main house, a square lawn is surrounded by annex buildings: the cellar and barn, prepared to host the most diverse events, have a kitchen, sanitary facilities, and large rooms. These buildings were initially built in the 12th century, but they have undergone several changes over the years, namely the insertion of 18th-century iron columns from the Alcobaça Monastery.

The last building area is the independent apartments, which are equipped with a kitchenette and balconies overlooking the green landscape of the floodplain next to the Alcoa River. There are six one-bedroom apartments and one two-bedroom apartment.

Until the 20th century, the property prioritized its outdoor space for agriculture. Now, with a local accommodation license, it uses this space and gardens for events and rural tourism areas.

Its location is attractive from a tourism point of view. It is close to places rich in heritage, such as Alcobaça, Tomar, and Batalha. Also, it enjoys the beaches of Peniche, Nazaré, São Pedro de Moel, and São Martinho do Porto.

The farm is located less than an hour and a half from Lisbon, with access via the A8 and around two hours from Porto.
